Fintech is a notoriously business-driven industry where metrics are painstakingly tracked. Designers know these metrics but often lack tools to assess if their product ideas will deliver expected business impact, especially when facing stakeholders who demand strong justification. PRDs should normally function as a tool to guide toward business goals, but when a PRD is incomplete or missing, designers are on their own.
- The solution comes in the form of a business-focused GPT that evaluates product ideas against business metrics, such as long-term value, retention, and GMV impact. The assistant explicitly ignores aesthetics or delight, as they rarely have a direct, provable link to GMV.
- The GPT does not pull from real time data sources. It would have made the GPT unnecessarily slow if we had used real time data sources; instead it follows a fixed conceptual dataset and patterns from company data that are updated every quarter.
- Designers and project managers can just paste or upload documents into the chat. Even when there is little to no explanation, the assistant uses business baselines to deliver a structured, detailed result.
- Most designers on our team (+40 designers) are non-native English speakers, therefore, the GPT communicates in simple English with minimal business jargon, formatted for easy copy-pasting into slide decks or Slack messages.
- The results show a repeat usage among a core group of designers, but the most important point is that it has opened discussion about the feasibility of certain product proposals.
